You think "leaders" would know when the time is right to say things

I heard a radio commercial for Wendy's the other day that got me to thinking. I didn't quite hear the entire thing, but got the gist of it. If I am not mistaken, a guy is whining that he doesn't have enough money to eat. From what I heard, he has to pay $200 in rent, $14 for a new music CD, I believe like $19 for gas and that will leave him with $5 for food. But don't fret young man, you can eat a double stack with cheese (can't they just call it a double cheeseburger?) at Wendy's for just 99 cents. That will get you through the workweek, provided you bum 5 cents off someone to pay the sales tax on each burger.

That is the part I heard. For all I know there are utilities to pay or something else. Now figuring this paycheck he received is most likely for two weeks- I don't believe it is noted in the commercial- I can't help but figure he is the biggest loser in the world. He is paying just $200 for rent? He must live in a closet. Only 19 bucks for gas is a bargain. I wish I was spending just 19 bones a week for gas. And what is with mentioning he needs to buy a CD? Dude, you go download your music and use that money for drinking. Oh wait, this cheap fuck probably doesn't have a computer. Can't afford it. Still, you have no drinking money? That $14 should be going towards a case of Milwaukee's Best so you can get a cheap drunk on. Yes Wendy's guy, you are the biggest loser in radio.

The whole Corretta Scott King funeral has become an even sadder event. How do you justify working your own political opinion into a funeral? This isn't about your thoughts of the world. It is about the person who has passed and what they did for everyone. These so called "leaders" should be ashamed of themselves. The Reverend Lowrey had this comment:

She deplored the terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar. We
know now that there were no weapons of mass destruction over there," Lowery
said.

Hmm...focus on the "we know now" part. One part incorrect and one part that defeats the purpose of his comment. Go ahead and check on WMDs in Iraq. There have been weapons found. Not the huge pile that everyone was hoping; that the media has made the general public believe. But illegal weapons were found in Iraq. The components for chemical weapons were found, just not put together. Like that makes a difference.

But let's focus on the "now" part. So in other words, you admit the President was right to believe in the intelligence the US had. Same intelligence that every other country that mattered had that showed Iraq had these weapons. That the President didn't lie. But apparently "now" is all that mattered. Not if Hussein did have the weapons and nothing was done, and had used to them to kill MORE innocent people.

He went on with this one too:

"For war, billions more, but no more for the poor!"

Exactly what does that mean? How exactly does one help the poor? Enable them to sit around and do nothing. I believe they need to help themselves. They cannot sit back for a handout. They need to take the time to use get up and get the needed training for a better job. Hey, I am not saying I have the answers hear, but I have not heard any from these so called "leaders".

Even the biggest joke of a President, Jimmy Carter had to chime in. He started well, but couldn't resist getting a jab in:

"This commerative ceremony this morning, this afternoon, is not only to
acknowledge the great contributions of Coretta and Martin, but to remind us that
the struggle for equal rights is not over. We only have to recall the color of
the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi," Carter said, the rest
of his sentence drowned out by loud applause. "Those who were most devastated by
[Hurricane] Katrina know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all
Americans. It is our responsibility to continue their crusade."
Isn't there be more opportunity right now for victims of Katrina? Seriously. There is for those who want to take advantage of the situation. I have read many stories of workers coming in from all over the south to help clear debris and rebuild the area. You live there. You have a great opportunity to get in there and help, learn a skill that could benefit you for years to come. But instead, you want to receive the government payout, and have them rebuild your home.

Opportunity comes to those who reach out for it.

Still, I find it sad that some people need to use a funeral to get their political points across. Maybe some day the black community can wake up and realize that the way out is to make themselves stronger, independent people. Not by taking the government hand out.

So instead of trying to help those who won't help themselves, go help someone who is deserving. Check out Dr. Pauly and his request to help BG. BG is Bobby Bracelet's bro. Both are good people. Go help. You will be glad you did.

Tomorrow I will have a report on the research I have put into Liquor Muffin. I dove in head first. The results were sweet, a tad messy at times, but tasty!

I dont know if I agree with you here. Mrs. King was a political activist for civil rights. What better time to help spread her words one last time.

Please point out the civil rights issue here then.

Jimmy Carters speech.
Now, I am white, I have no idea what minorities go through. However; I do the vast majority of the poor are minorities. If all was equal, that would not be the case.
I understand your point of the post, its just that I think its a fitting tribute to reiterate the issues she stood for.

I say it should go like this.

(Walk to podium)

She did this...

She also did this...

Many people were unaware of this...

She has affected many lives because of this...

We will not forget her and what she has meant...

(leave podium)

Save the opinions for another time, at least in my 2.7gpa estimation.

Politics at a funeral is as bad as bringing a date to your own wedding.

Veg,
Reiterating issues she fought for is one thing, bringing your political opinion into a funeral is another.

How is being poor to be blamed on the Bush administration? In the specific case of black people- espeicially the congregation on hand- black home ownership is at an all time high. More people are working. You cannot blame a hurricane on the President. The response is mainly state's, but yes, the national response could have been better.

Plus, Carter making a comment about government wire tapping of the Kings was not only inappropriate, but factually negative to the point he was making. It was a Kennedy that had the King's phone's tapped. A Dem. Why didn't that fool point that out?

I stick to my original comment. A funeral of a civil rights leader is not the place to bring politics in. Liberals should be embarassed but their ethics ended 14 years ago.
