The greatest running back to play the game has retired. Emmitt Smith gave us Cowboys fans many years of football ecstasy. Watching him run around Redskins, Giants and Eagles was pure enjoyment.
Defending the star was just.
Playing with pain was normal.
Scoring touchdowns was what he did.
He was a warrior. And 18,355 yards and 164 touchdowns later, he leaves with his head held high, and having made Cowboys fans proud.
I read his book, the Emmitt Zone, years ago. One of the things it mentioned was the goals he had set out for his career. As lofty as they seemed as a rookie, he accomplished them. People can learn from this man.
"You don't know how much this star really means to me," Smith said, holding the Cowboys helmet.
No, Emmitt. You do not know how much you meant to us fans.
Thanks Emmitt for being a Dallas Cowboy.
