At the derby

I found myself at an interesting place on Saturday night. Some friends invited me to go check out the local roller derby league. Yep, you read that right. Roller derby. I was out to watch the Brewcity Bruisers.

But it wasn't the roller derby I remembered watching as a kid. One of this:



There was no banked track. It wasn't fake with a ton of fights. No, this roller derby was real. And fun to watch. Best yet, it is all women. No guys to gay it up. Some hot chicks hauling ass around a flat track, playing for keeps. Ok, so it did help they were selling beer every 30 yards. But the action on the track was exciting. Something I would definately go back to see again.

It was also interesting to see how many people came out on a cold night to watch roller derby. Had to be at least 300 people in attendance. That was quite a bit more than I had expected. The organizers of this show sure have their act together.
