Just like being in the elementary school cafeteria

Unlike most of you, the company I work for feeds us. We have a nice cafeteria downstairs that serves us lunch everyday. As a matter of fact, it isn't too bad. Sometimes the meals are pretty damn good.

Last year there was some concern about whether we would have free lunch anymore. Change of ownership was equated to no more food. But a funny thing happened.

It got better. Much better. Made to order sandwiches, pizza, more variety on the salad bar, better entrees, soup and chili every day. Everyone went from being down to overly impressed.

So why is it that some people need to mess up a great thing?

The manager of the cafeteria thought it would be a great idea for employees to suggest the menu for this week. At first glance, that sounds like a great idea. They had slips of paper out so you could make your suggestion. I must admit, I didn't make a suggestion. But if I did, it would have been something like chicken Parmesan or maybe Philly Cheese Steaks. Something that isn't your every day meal, yet is easy to make en masse.

What we got was the third grade menu. Hot dogs, chicken fingers, burgers and tortellini. WTF people?!?!?!?

You basically wanted to eat the crap we used to get. Who the heck thinks a hot dog is the best choice for a meal? Why not just suggest tater freakin' tot casserole?!?!?!?

Man, did people blow it this week! Yeah, I should have made my suggestion. Maybe next week I might get a graham cracker during my milk break.

See what happens when you allow IT people to fill out surveys?
