Never shall I give up drink!!!

That time of year is upon us again. That time where all good Catholics torture themselves by giving up things they love for Lent. Though I don't attend church, just church picnics, I feel the need to give something up year after year. I know, it doesn't make sense but I always think of it as a character builder. Without discipline, you are nothing.

So what to give up this year? Last year was tough. I gave up beer. Yep, you read that right. I gave up beer. Notice how it wasn't alcohol? I ain't that crazy though I have friends that do.

I know of others that will give up fast food, or snacks. Some have tried soda. But none of that works for me. I don't eat or drink much crap food like that.

Beyond beer last year, I recall giving up pizza once. That was tough as I was eating pizza every Monday. It was like tradition. My check book was proof of it as just about every check was written out to a pizza joint. There was a co-worker that found that to be hilarious.

It was tossed about on Friday night what I should give up. Someone suggested I stay away from Hooters. NO WAY! In fact, I was there just yesterday so that cannot be done.

But then Gambino through out a suggestion that I thought was diabolical at first. I swore it off as being impossible. Then, as I thought about it, I realized she was right. This one will be somewhat tough, but I think I can manage.

So for Lent I am giving up Maker's Mark and other hard liquor. I can't believe I just typed that. My hands shook as the fingers hit the keyboard. Even as I look at it, I feel like I am in a bit of shock.

But I will have to take a small window on Sunday as I was committed to an engagement that does require drinking margaritas. But beyond that, no hard liquor shall pass my lips.

I hope the people at the distillery will understand and forgive me.

Say it ain't so, Joe. I was merely jesting about giving up your beloved liquor. Least we forget about the trip up north? Drinking only beer in a casino? I think you gotta give yourself another window.
