You thought things were bad?

Well, November 7 is here. Election Day. Time to go vote and make your voice be heard. A chance to change things, or keep them going.

I am not going off one way or the other like I did yesterday about poker. I am going after someone though. Local government politicians who get too big for their britches. Yes, you read that right. I said britches!

So, let me talk about those britches in local government...

When I go to the polls today, I will be able to vote on a local referendum in the City of Milwaukee. A referendum pertaining to the situation in Iraq. It reads:

Question: "Shall the United States commence a humane, orderly, rapid and comprehensive withdrawal of United States military personnel and bases from Iraq?"

Let's see....President, Senate, House of Representatives, Mayor, Milwaukee Common Council (Alderman). I think I have the order correct. So the Common Council of Milwaukee thinks that they should do something about what is going on in Iraq with a referendum? Isn't that the job of our Congressmen and Senators? To listen to the people and vote as we instruct (in theory at least)?

See, some leaders in Milwaukee figured they could get this on the ballot to let the voices of Milwaukee be known. If that ain't a load of bullshit, I don't know what is. They wasted time and money discussing a topic that is the job of people voted in on a federal level, not local. Instead of urging people to get know to their elected representatives better, they took it upon themselves to put a worthless referendum on the ballot. Nice job guys.

Even better is the way it is worded. Humane, orderly, rapid and comprehensive. If the troops are pulled out soon, the terrorists win. Terrorists are so humane. Orderly. What the hell is that suppose to mean? Stay in a single file guys! Don't knock over the garbage can. If you do, pick it up. Rapid. So are they suppose to get out soon or when the time is right to get our quickly? Comprehensive. Get totally out. Let the Iraqi government deal with all the issues and implode.

Nice thinking Common Council. Very humane.

Milwaukee suburb Fox Point gets to the point:
Question: "Be it resolved, that the United States should now begin withdrawing troops from Iraq, and continue steady withdrawal until all our troops are home."

Ok, good to see Milwaukee politicians aren't the only ones thinking they should dictate U.S. foreign policy. Milwaukee's people pussyfoot on the issue while Fox Point goes for the cut and run approach.

But wait, the good people of Racine, Whitefish Bay, Wauwatosa and South Milwaukee have also raise their hand and join the stupidity parade as well. In fact, Racine takes it a step further and is trying to dictate some state policy as well. As a matter of principle, you should vote NO on any of these referendums. It is not the place of these politicians to be pushing for this on a local ballot. Then call your alderman and thank them for wasting your taxes for such a foolish folly.

Now go vote. I would say you cannot bitch about who is elected if you have not voted but apparently, that is not the case.
